Performance Counter Fix

Postby andronikos916 » Mon Feb 21, 2011 8:19 am

Windows (especially WinXP and Win2000 users) may encounter the following error. This is not directly related with Refamo but it blocks Refamo Node to ready and send information to Refamo Manager about CPU, Memory, Swap etc..

"cannot set up CPU monitor, invalid input string".

There are different ways you can solve this. I personally use the "Solution 2" but I would share all 3 methods.

1) By Running the "ProcPerfCounter_fix.reg"
2) Replacing the corrupted Windows system files.
3) Manually rebuild Performance Counter Library values.

------------

1) Download the file "ProcPerfCounter_fix.reg" and double-click on the file to run it on your PC. This will attempt to
fix a value in the Windows Registry. After fixing the registry, try running the Desktop Assistant. If the problem is
not fixed, proceed to solution #2.

2) If step 1 did not fix the problem and if you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, then two of the Windows system files may be corrupt. Locate the files, perfc009.dat and perfh009.dat in C:\Windows\System32\. Make copies of these two original files and save them somewhere else on your computer as backups.
2a. Download the two files from this page (perfc009.dat and perfh009.dat) and put them into the C:\Windows \System32\ directory. Select yes, if asked to overwrite.
2b. After replacing the files, run the Desktop Assistant.

3) Manually rebuild Performance Counter Library values. (This is the most tricky and time consuming method).

ANother solution is:
1. Start => Accesories => (Right Click Run as Administrator) Command Prompt
2. Type "lodctr /?"
3. Type "lodctr /R"
and that's it!
